Robotics & Coding

Introduction

Robotics started at The Vale College as a club (overseen by Mr. David Osigwe), but due to the demands and importance of automation and coding across industries, as well as the projected demand for this course/skill in the future, the board of governors certified it as a compulsory subject. Effective September 2020, Robotics and Coding are offered as compulsory courses.

A significant investment was made to equip the robotics laboratory (distinct from the computer laboratory) with state-of-the-art tools, which many experts in the field (both domestically and internationally) have certified as meeting international standards. Equipping the Robotics laboratory is an ongoing process, extending beyond the establishment year. In recent years, over 15 million Naira (as of August 2021 valuation) has been invested in the robotics program alone.

Due to the ever-changing demands and rising standards, it was necessary to continue robotics education during holidays. Robotics is an essential component of The Vale College summer school program.

TVC Blender Foundation

In the year 2021, the TVC Blender Foundation was established by Mr. Sodeke Samuel (M.Sc. (UI, Nigeria), B.Sc (Anglia Ruskin, UK), ADSE (India), MCSE (Microsoft)). He founded the Blender Foundation with the sole purpose of identifying and nurturing exceptional students in specific areas such as 3D Modeling, Sculpting, and Animation. TBF, a special intellectual offshoot of robotics, has been giving talented young 3D Artists at The Vale College the opportunity to receive special tutelage and be more creative and productive. Adetona Adegbite is the foundation's first scholar, and his projects are impressive certifications to this!

Coding

Since the inception of the programme, the students have been exposed to the following programming languages : Python, Javascript, Java and Arduino Programming Language. A few of them have demonstrated exceptional skills and deployed a few applications themselves.

African Drone Soccer Competition

African Soccer Drone Competition: Alimat Adetunji, David Okotieboh, Jedidiah Adedeji, Olaoluwatofunmi Ibitoye, Ademide Adegoke, all SS2 students, and Pemisire Emida, an SS1 student, demonstrated their expertise in drone technology at the prestigious African Soccer Drone Competition held in Lekki, Lagos. They secured second place in the competition, which featured eight top schools from the South-West region of Nigeria. Their dedication and hard work paid off as they showcased remarkable proficiency in drone operation, design, and programming. The program was sponsored by the Embassy of the United States of America in Lagos.

2024 Exhibition: Robotics Meets Arts Exhibition

One of our major initiatives during this term was the establishment of a scheme where Robotics meets Arts. Our students created over 15 captivating 3D models, each demonstrating the seamless integration of robotics concepts with artistic vision. The exhibition garnered significant attention and appreciation, showcasing the diverse talents and interdisciplinary approach fostered within our program.

Upcoming AI Exhibition: Humanoid

Arionola presenting the Eifeel Tower during the exhibition

There was an AI Exhibition on Tuesday March 26th. The humanoid project will be launched in the third term. It is a STEAM project.
